Master Bobby Staton
Master Bobby Staton began his study of Kung Fu San Soo under Master Bat McGrath in 1992. Master Staton was Master McGrath's first student in the Nashville area. He also proved to be his fastest developing student.
From their earliest workouts Bobby recalls "Bat told me he wasn't teaching me to be a fighter. He was teaching me to be a teacher. We would work five nights a week and he would give me assignments and goals to work on each night". Under Master McGrath's supervision, Bobby began teaching his first students as a Green Belt.
Bobby achieved Black Belt rank in 1995. He eventually took over the Nashville area for Master McGrath and has continued to expand it. Bobby became Master McGrath's first student promoted to Master in 2003.
Bobby is truly a Master and instructor to all of us in San Soo Tennessee. He converted his garage into a school that holds his weekly classes, our monthly blackbelt classes and special events such as promotion ceremony.

He has named his school the "Bat Cave" in honor of Master Bat McGrath.
He invites any students from other San Soo schools to attend whenever they want. He always welcomes them warmly then proceeds to teach them in the same pure manner he has learned from Masters Bat McGrath and Chuck Cory.
In fact, most instructors won't promote their students until they have worked with Master Bobby. At promotion ceremonies Bobby has stopped more than once and surveyed the groups of students. He generally smiles warmly and says "I've knocked everyone down that's here at least once" then laughes and begins the promotions ceremony.
His skill, knowledge and humility are an inspiration to everyone associated with him. We are proud to call him one of our Masters. |
