Marc Torrence
Marc began his training in Kung Fu San Soo in 2002 under Master Bobby Staton, earned his black belt in 2005, and recently was promoted to 1st degree black belt.
His training has further benefited from monthly black belt courses taught by Masters Chuck Cory and Bat McGrath.
His interest in the Martial Arts started early in life and he began training in Tae Kwon Do during high school. He eventually earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do in 2001. However, even at the level of black belt in Tae Kwon Do, he always wondered how practical it would be in a street self-defense situation, or as we saw on September 11, in the confines of an airplane aisle.
The first time he saw San Soo, he knew it was an art for him. Master Mike McGrath invited him to a workout. “It looked a lot like what we learned in the U.S. Marines, it was fairly simple to apply, and like our instructors have told us hundreds of times and we have in turn told our students, San Soo adapts to any situation instantly”, Marc says. |
Master Staton has always stressed that he teaches his students to be teachers and that San Soo must be passed exactly the way it was taught to you.
“We are committed to teaching the same way in Franklin, so that our students will receive the same training we did. San Soo has become an important part of my life and I look forward to furthering my training and helping others to become involved with it.”
