I have some bad news for my San Soo Breathern. My son Devin, his girlfriend and their 3 mo old daughter have lost everything in the flood and currently have only the clothes they were wearing when they left the house. Today is the first day the water was low enough to get in and see the damage. The water line on the wall was over 6 feet high. We are struggling to deal with this at this time.

Chuck, there will be help. during the 94' earthquake I lost everything and FEMA helped me a lot. It took some time and patience but there is help out there. Everything can be replaced, except life.

They really got to focus on the blessing that their safe.

I  wish them well and all of Tennessee well, except for their football teams LOL

Chuck,
I lost 95% of belongings and my home in fires in our area a few years back, I will share some things I learned the hard way.  Do not wait for help, go on the offensive, there will be tons of help at first for a while but some will drop off.

FIRST, go to the Red Cross, they will help you fill out papers and will help you get a Fema number, everything will be based off that number.
The first help will come from the Red Cross, Salvation Army, Fema, Churches, etc.

Hang around the places that provide food, and hand tools, blankets, pots, clothing.  People will come there to help but what comes in one day will be gone the next.  One anomous rich guy took many Fema numbers and the next day had $1000 checks for them, this went on for weeks, the Buddhist gave me $500 and some new clothing, volunteers helped with ash removal.  Lowes gave 10% discounts with Fema cards, a Red Cross nurse gave perscription refills for lost medicine.  It is not easy, there will be times when you are up and times when you feel low but as in our Art that is when you fight harder, things will get better.

There are many ways to get the needed help, if you send your number or Devin's I will call with some more info.  I was helped and will help in any way I can.

Let me know,

Ron Gatewood

Chuck,

I have good friend who is a pastor of a large church in the KC area. They mobilize pretty quick to help families in need. Folks in MO and KS are used to floods and Tornadoes. I will reach out to him today.

Hey Chuck,

My thoughts are with you guys!  I don't watch the news, and only heard about this a few days ago.  I wish I was there to bring Devin over to my house to pick through my closet.  I have somethings I would be glad to ship out.  What size shoe does he wear?  Do you need computer parts to rebuild him something?  I know money is always helpful!

Hope the recovery goes well.  Please let us know more about what we can send to help.

RonDevin has lost his laptop and his desktop computer, but right now he and my sister-in law Carol have no place to stay. Devin and I are sleeping on the floor and my wife and Sister-in law have our only bed. We are still waiting on FEMA in hopes of getting some place for them to live. Then we need beds, bedding, and furniture along with clothes. But right now we are in limbo until we can get a place for them to stay. We are susposed to move on the 15th to our newly rented apartment that we have been waiting on for the last 15 days, but it is still too small to accomadate them and us. We are falling over packed boxes and beds made on the floor right now. What a mess.

Chuck,

As I mentioned in our conversation. I have a bed you (or Devin ) can have. I know you probably dont have room for it right now, but it's available. There is some other furniture that I have in storage, that you guys are welcome to. I also have some old baby clothes and stroller and stuff that I found that Devin may be able to use.  Just let me know, I'll help out any way I can.  I'll try and make it out to class next week when I get back in town. hope you guys are well.

Thanks Dave we can use it all. I signed a lease today for the apartment we have been waiting for. this means we can get some of the furniture by next week some time.

The apartment we have been waiting for had flood damage as well, they fixed it but it is a long way from good, but we need something bad to get everyine off the floor.
I will talk to you next week at class and set up some time to get the furniture. That will go a long way for them.
PS the latest in the FEMA struggle is now we are told that everyone has to file seperately. So my sister-in law had to file again. I think Devin's filing is still ok though even though we have heard nothing to date.
